Sample Essay on Skills and Qualifications
Sample Essay on Skills and QualificationsIf you are not sure if you are qualified for an academic or professional position, one of the best ways to find out is to write a sample essay about your skills and qualifications. It can take several weeks or months to complete, but the payoff will be well worth it!A sample essay on your qualifications should include some elements that are obviously typical of the company you are applying for. For example, ask yourself what positions they require, or exactly what you do already. If you know it will take many years to complete a college degree, it may not be too prudent to reveal your past work experience; however, if you have a solid skill set, you may want to share this with a potential employer.Think about how long you have been with your current employer, and how long you have had that job. Is your current position secure? You don't want to come across as a career changer! If you have other skills, which are useful to the job that you are a pplying for, discuss these as well. Make sure that you demonstrate these skills as you outline your qualifications for the position.Another important area to discuss in a sample essay is what you expect to gain from your new position. What will your goal be after you accept the position? Many times it will be to advance in your current position, or to move to a higher level of pay. Perhaps it will also be to gain new responsibilities, or to be rewarded for a job well done.Having realistic expectations when describing your skills and capabilities will give you confidence that your job descriptions are accurate. And remember, as much as you want to appear positive and friendly, there is nothing wrong with being honest and straightforward, as long as your resume is honest and informative.Your sample essay can focus on both quantitative and qualitative skill sets. If you excel at a specific skill, include it in your summary. However, if you have skills that are more general, perhaps tra nslating from another language, covering a number of different areas, or have some other traits that are very valuable, then include them as well.Essay samples are designed for informational purposes only. You should not consider any information you receive in the form of a sample as a binding contract or guarantee concerning your employment with the company.
